Reducing the size of the canopy
in a tree is the process of cutting back to a side branch, to leave
a flowering line. This enables a tree to be retained to a manageable
size for its surroundings.
The practice of stumping or topping
is poor arboricultural practice and should not be done, as it is detrimental
to the long term health of the tree.
